Diabetic Gift Baskets
Many people suffer from diabetes and if you know somebody who is diabetic, I'm sure they would appreciate receiving a diabetic gift basket. Glucose comes from the food that people eat and it is also produced inside of your liver and muscles. The glucose is carried to all of the cells in your body by your blood. Insulin is a chemical (hormone) that is produced by your pancreas. The pancreas releases insulin into the blood and the insulin helps get the glucose from food into your cells. If a person's body doesn't make enough insulin or if the insulin doesn't work the way it is supposed to, then the glucose can't get into your cells. If this happens, the glucose will stay in your blood instead, your blood glucose level will get too high, and this is what causes diabetes.
This means that people who are diabetic have to be careful about what they eat and drink, especially their sugar intake, so the food items in a diabetic gift basket should be sugar free. Some diabetic people also have to avoid refined carbohydrates such as bread, crackers and cookies as well. However, with a little imagination you can still create or buy a tasty gift basket for a diabetic person to enjoy. Most types of food items are made in sugar free versions today, so diabetic people can still eat a wide variety of delicious foods. There are sugar free sodas, chocolates, cookies, candies, pies, bubble gum, brownies, cakes and wafers.
Some other safe food items to place in a diabetic gift basket may also be teas, cheeses, soups, nuts, pretzels and popcorn. Most types of fresh fruit are also suitable for a diabetic gift basket as they are colorful and refreshing. If you are not quite sure what type of food items are suitable for a diabetic gift basket then the best thing to do is to buy a basket that is already assembled and packaged from a store. If you do try and create your own gift basket and inadvertently place unsuitable food items in it, then unfortunately, they may go to waste.
